Delhi police detain medical residents; Medical association calls for strike on December 29

Delhi police officials arrested several medical residents who were marching to the residence of Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya as part of protest against the delay of NEET-PG 2021 council. Prior to that, police had arrested several medical residents who marched to the Supreme Court of India.
âEarlier today, as we protested peacefully for immediate advice from NEET-PG, we were roughed up by the cops. Many resident doctors, including female doctors, have been injured in police brutality. Now we want the cops involved in this to be punished, âsaid a resident doctor at RML Hospital. India today.
No less than 300 resident doctors marched to the Sarojini Nagar police station where they were detained. Doctors also sang the national anthem before being arrested. Meanwhile, medical associations condemned police action against doctors in the nation’s capital.
The Federation of Medical Association of India (FAIMA) has called for the suspension of all police personnel under whose orders force has been used against protesting doctors, including the abuse of female medical residents by men from the police.
The FAIMA statement read: âFAIMA strongly condemns the abuse of power by the Delhi police and demands the immediate suspension of all police personnel under whose orders force has been used against our doctors. The videos that have surfaced and the stories that have been shared are horrific and make us wonder if we are back in barbaric times, or if the administration feels it can do whatever it wants to suppress. dissent? “
FAIMA further stated in its statement that it was suspending all health services from 8 a.m. on December 29 in solidarity with the Federation of Resident Doctors Associations (FORDA) and other associations of medical residents ( RDA). The association asked other associations of doctors to follow suit and issue opinions on this subject.
FORDA, on the other hand, called it a “dark day in the history of the nation’s medical fraternity.” He condemned the police action against the protesting doctors and announced that all health facilities would be completely closed from today.
âResident doctors, the so-called ‘Corona Warriors’, who were peacefully protesting to speed up NEET-PG 2021 council in Delhi were brutally beaten, dragged and detained by cops. All health facilities will be closed from today. We strongly condemn this brutality and demand the immediate release of FORDA representatives and medical residents, âthe FORDA statement read.
The AIIMS RDA recounted the sacrifices made by doctors in the second wave of COVID-19 when India’s healthcare system was strained beyond its means while condemning police brutality against medical residents who protested.
âThe AIIMS RDA strongly condemns this police brutality and the government’s insensitivity to the medical fraternity and demands the immediate release of all detained doctors, with an apology from the government and the police. This incident is sufficiently sensitive to cause the termination of all medical activities by the medical residents; and in the absence of an immediate response from the government, the GDR is sure to do so. It is high time the government released a report on what has been done, the date and the government’s plans to accelerate NEET-PG counseling, âAIIMS RDA said in a press release.
He also decided to shut down health services, including all non-emergency services, from December 29 if the government does not respond within 24 hours.
